1 M6 - 9 Nm; M8 - 20 Nm

• Observe sequence for tightening: Vehicles through 04.2005 => [ Set the lower timing chain cover in place,
guiding the cover at an angle from below onto the sealing surface of the cylinder
block and cylinder head. ] Lower Timing Chain Cover, vehicles from 05.2005 => [ Set the lower timing chain cover in place,
guiding the cover at an angle from below onto the sealing surface of the cylinder
block and cylinder head. ] Lower Timing Chain Cover

2 Crankshaft shaft seal, transmission side

• Replacing, refer to => [ Crankshaft Seal, Transmission Side ] Service and Repair.

3 Alignment bushing

• 2 pieces

4 Lower timing chain cover

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover

5 Left cylinder head gasket

6 5 Nm plus an additional 90° turn

• Replace

• Observe sequence for tightening => [ Position right timing chain cover and tighten bolts in sequence. ] Left and Right Timing Chain Covers

7 Left timing chain cover

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Left and Right Timing Chain Covers ] Left and Right Timing Chain Covers

8 16 Nm

• For vehicles from 05.2005

9 5 Nm plus an additional 90° turn

• Replace

• Observe sequence for tightening => [ Position right timing chain cover and tighten bolts in sequence. ] Left and Right Timing Chain Covers

10 Right timing chain cover

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Left and Right Timing Chain Covers ] Left and Right Timing Chain Covers

11 Right cylinder head gasket

12 Alignment bushing

• 2 pieces
