Lock Carrier With Attachments, Removing And Installing

CAUTION: On vehicles with distance regulation (ACC), observe the following.

If crossmember is removed and re-installed or changes are made to ACC bracket, distance regulation adjustment must be carried out.


Assembly overview







1 - Combination screw
- Only accessible after removing noise insulation
- 10 Nm

2 - Combination screw
- 10 Nm

3 - Combination screw
- 10 Nm

4 - Lock carrier
- Removal:
- Remove bumper.
- Remove noise insulation.
- Disengage release for hood lock.
- Remove engine cover - 2 - and - 3 -.
- Remove intake air duct between lock carrier and air cleaner housing at lock carrier.
- Disconnect electrical connections.
- Drain engine coolant and disconnect coolant pipes and.
- Remove condenser from water cooler only (do not disconnect lines)
- Secure A/C system condenser using wire e.g. to front wheel.

NOTE: Do not hang condenser on lines. Condenser lines should not be pinched under any circumstances.

- Disconnect hoses to hydraulic oil cooler.
- Remove hydraulic oil cooler

NOTE: Hydraulic oil cooler line should not be pinched under any circumstances.

- For cars with automatic transmission, disconnect lines to ATF-cooler.
- On vehicles with charge air cooling remove air intake duct hose.
- Remove gasket for left and right front flap at juncture of fender at lock carrier - 1 -.
- Unscrew bolts - 5 -.
- A second technician is needed to hold the lock carrier - 1 -.
- Unscrew bolts - 4 -.
- Pull lock carrier toward front.
- Installing:
- Reverse order of removal.
- Headlights must be adjusted anew.
- Adjusting:
- Lock carrier - 1 - must be aligned between the fenders.
- When fenders and front bumper are replaced, they must adjusted in conjunction with lock carrier.

5 - Combination screw
- 50 Nm

6 - Hex head bolt
- 20 Nm

7 - Hex nut
8 - Cross member
- Remove bumper cover before removal.
- To remove, remove hex head screws and detach cross member from impact absorbers.







Remove mounting point on reinforcement plate.
- Remove noise insulation
- Remove Torx head screw -arrow-.
- When installing lock carrier, tighten fastener to 10 Nm.







Disconnect upper coolant hose
- Pull out retainer for coolant line connecting flange at top of radiator and remove connecting flange.







Disconnect lower coolant hose
- Pull out retainer for coolant line connecting flange at bottom of radiator and remove connecting flange.
- Bleed cooling system.







Disconnect hydraulic oil cooler

Vehicles with impact absorbers, assembly overview


NOTE: The assembly overview only shows parts that are different from vehicles without impact absorbers; removal and installation are carried out as described above

2 - Hex nut
3 - Hex head bolt
- 20 Nm

4 - Flange nut
- Secures impact absorber in lock carrier in preassembly
- 10 Nm

5 - Shock absorber
- USA only.

6 - Combination screw
- 50 Nm

7 - Lock carrier
- Remove as described above.

8 - Left reinforcement plate
9 - Right reinforcement plate
10 - Combination screw
