Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Special tools and workshop equipment required





- Pressing lever 80-200

Removing





- Shift selector lever into "P" position.
- Loosen mounting parts -3- and -4- and remove rear part of noise insulation





- Remove bolts -1- to -4- on both floor cross members

Note: Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.





- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamps -arrows-.
- Remove heat shield for exhaust system beneath shift mechanism.





- Remove holder -3- for selector lever cable. To do so, unscrew bolts -2-.





- Use pressing lever 80-200 to push selector lever cable -A- off selector shaft lever -arrow-.





- Unbolt bottom section of cover from shift mechanism -arrows-.
- Remove selector lever cable boot from beneath cover and slide back.





- Remove securing plate -1- for selector lever cable on shift mechanism downward.
- Remove locking clamp -3- from pin.
- Remove selector lever cable -2- from pin.

Note: Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

- Remove selector lever cable from shift mechanism.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to following:

Notes:
^ Do not bend or kink selector lever cable.
^ Before installing, lightly grease cable eyelet and ball socket of selector lever cable using polycarbamide grease G 052 142 A2.





- Press lever/shift rod -a- on transmission completely toward the rear -arrow- until park lock is engaged.





- Slide selector lever cable into shift mechanism and secure it with securing plate -1-.
- Installation position: Angled end of securing plate points to rear
- Connect the end of selector lever cable to selector lever pin and secure it with locking clamp -3-.
- Install selector lever cable boot into cover beneath.





- Bolt bottom section of cover to shift mechanism -arrows-.





- Bolt selector lever cable -5- to support bracket -4- and tighten lock nuts to -6- 12 Nm.
- Check whether selector lever is set to "P", then carefully push ball socket of selector lever cable -5- onto selector shaft lever -7-.

Note: Do not bend the selector shaft lever when pushing on the ball socket (counter hold if necessary), otherwise it will no longer be possible to adjust the selector mechanism precisely.

- Adjust selector lever cable.
- Install exhaust system such that it is not subject to mechanical stress:
