Shift Cable: Adjustments

Special tools and workshop equipment required





- Pry lever 80-200





- Socket T40031
Preparing for work





- Loosen mounting parts -3- and -4- and remove rear part of noise insulation.





- Remove bolts -1- to -4- on both floor cross members.

Note: Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.





- T Disconnect exhaust system at double clamps -arrows-.
- Remove heat shield for exhaust system beneath shift mechanism.





Checking
- Shift selector lever into "P" position.
- Press off selector lever cable -A- from lever for shin rod -arrow-using pry lever 80-900.
- Shift selector lever into "D" position.
- Shift mechanism and selector lever cable must then move freely, or if necessary, replace selector lever cable or service shift mechanism.





- Shift selector lever into "P" position.
- Shift lever/shift rod -A- to "P" -arrow- (fully toward rear), park lock must engage, both front wheels may not be turned in one direction.
- Selector lever cable must let itself press on to lever/shift rod, adjust selector lever cable if necessary.

Adjusting
- Shift selector lever into "D" position.





- Unscrew nut-1- and push support bracket -4- out of holder -3-.





- Grip selector lever and push selector shaft lever -1- forward as far as it will go when set to "D" -arrow-.





- Tighten nut -1- on holder -3- to secure support bracket -a- at this position.
- Remove shift mechanism cover.





- Insert special tool T40031 into hole in shift mechanism and slacken clamping bolt at rear end of selector lever cable by approximately 1 revolution.

Notes:
^ Slacken the clamping bolt by approximately 1 revolution - do not unscrew completely.
^ The clamping bolt can only be accessed when the selector lever is set to "D".
^ When the clamping bolt has been slackened, the selector lever must remain set at "D".

- Check the selector lever position in "D" once more.

Note: When adjusting the selector lever, do not pull it backward or forward as this will move the lever from the correct position.

- Use special tool T40031 to tighten clamping bolt (13 Nm) at this position.
- Install shift mechanism cover.
- Install exhaust system such that it is not subject to mechanical stress:
