Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Vehicles With 6-Cylinder Engine


CAUTION: Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
- On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery.
- After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows.
- After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-on the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module.
- Disconnect battery Ground strap with ignition switched off.

NOTE: Requirements after re-connecting voltage supply

Removing
- Remove front right wheel.
- Remove generator. Service and Repair







- Unscrew heat shield for right drive shaft -arrows-.







- Disconnect cable from terminal B+ -2-
- Unplug connector for terminal 50 -1-.
- Detach heat shield -3- from solenoid switch.
- Remove starter mounting bolts -arrows-, detach starter.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- Install generator, observe instructions on connecting battery.
