With VAG 1551

Service Reminder Indicator (SRI):

Beginning with October 1994 production, all 1995 m.y. Audi 100 (A6) use a new instrument cluster which includes a Service Reminder Indicator (SRI).

The instrument cluster is coded according to the engine and country variants as well as individual, scheduled service intervals. The instrument cluster must be coded initially at the Secondary PDI (or time of delivery) and whenever a replacement cluster is installed. In addition, SRI displays must be reset after each specified service or inspection is performed.

The system has no On Board Diagnostic capability.

Instrument cluster, replacing, resetting SRI example

Connect VAG 1551, select "Rapid data transfer", turn ignition on.

Press buttons -1- and -7- (Instrument Cluster). confirm with button -Q- and advance with -> button.

Press buttons -1- and -0- (Adaptation), and confirm with button -Q-.

Press buttons -0- and -5- (OEL), confirm with button -Q- and advance with -> button.

Enter adaptation values which represent the mileage and time remaining until the 7,500/12,000km oil change. (In the case of cluster replacement on a vehicle with 6,000km, the 6,000km and 90 days remaining until the 12,000 oil change represents a value of 00006 (distance) and 00009 (time).

Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Press buttons -0- and -6-, -0- and -7-, -0- and -8- make the necessary value calculations and press -Q- button to confirm new values.

WARNING!

This setting is only possible with a new cluster

This setting is possible only one time for each instrument cluster.

Only a larger setting value can be entered.

If the wrong information has been entered and confirmed; correction is not possible. The instrument cluster must be replaced

Note:

Setting of service interval display must be done in kilometers. Therefore calculate the value from miles to km. Multiply miles by 1.6 to convert to km.

Instrument cluster, replacing General notes

Before removing instrument cluster, note vehicle mileage

After replacing the instrument cluster, the vehicle mileage and all SRI indicators are to be re-established/coded into the new cluster.

Note the Airbag safety information, where applicable.

Functional tests of the instruments should be conducted.

See applicable wiring diagram for routing of terminals and checking multi-pin connectors.

Test requirements

Fuses OK, check according to wiring diagram.

Always check the coding of the instrument cluster with VAG 1551 scan tool.

Note: "Automatic Test Sequence" function 10 is not possible with VAG 1551 scan tool with software status 4.0 (version 4.0 card). The control modules should be checked individually using their respective address words. with the update of test software this function will be possible.
