Brake caliper, rear, repairing
CAUTION: During repairs, always install all parts of repair kit.
New brake calipers are filled with brake fluid and pre-bled.
In case of repair, brake calipers must be bled before installing in vehicle (without brake pads) ~ Fig. 6.
Note: Coat brake cylinder piston and seals lightly with brake assembly lube.
1. Self-locking bolt
Always replace
35 Nm (26 ft lb)
Hold guide pin when loosening and tightening
2. Brake caliper housing with lever for parking brake cable
Replace brake caliper housing if there is leaking at parking brake cable lever
After repairing, pre-bleed brake caliper housing ~ Fig. 6
3. Bleeder valve
Coat threads lightly with brake cylinder paste
4. Dust cap
Install on bleeder valve
5. Piston seal
Remove with a screwdriver ~ Fig. 3
6. Piston with automatic adjusting device
Turn out of brake caliper housing Fig. 1
Turn into brake caliper housing ~ Fig. 5
Diameter: 38 mm (1.50 in) or 43 mm 11.69 in)
7. Guide pin
Lubricate protective cap before installing
8. Piston outer seal
Install on piston ~ Fig. 2
Installing in brake caliper housing Fig. 4
9. Protective cap
Install onto brake pad carrier and guide pins
10. Brake pad carrier with guide pins and protective cap
Supplied as replacement part fully assembled with sufficient grease on guide pins
If protective cap shows damage, install repair kit Part No.443 698 470
Use grease packet included in repair kit to lubricate guide pins

- Unscrew piston by turning threaded spindle counterclockwise, and simultaneously turning knurled wheel clockwise.
Note: If piston does not move easily, a 13 mm open-end wrench can be used on the flats provided (arrow -A-).

Note: Hold the piston in front of the brake caliper housing.

- When turning piston in, press down forcefully.
- Turn in to stop.
CAUTION: Lip of piston outer seal must spring into groove.

- Open bleeder valve and, using standard commercial bleeder container, fill with brake fluid until fluid comes Out of threaded hose without bubbles (brake hose connection). Close bleeder valve.
CAUTION: Position caliper as shown for pre-bleeding before installing.
