Power Steering Gear Components

Power steering gear, assembly






Note: Do not weld or straighten steering components.

1. Steering gear
After installing, place steering wheel spoke in horizontal position and fasten
Gear ratio: 18.7:1
After replacing, adjust toe

CAUTION: The wheels must be turned to the straight-ahead position before removing the steering gear and steering wheel. This ensures that the airbag spiral spring in the steering wheel will not be damaged.

2. Wheel housing

3. Self-locking nut
Improved mounting parts installed on vehicles from VIN ... PN 050 668 (1993 m.y.) and later
Always replace; install improved mounting parts, including washers
Tightening torque with improved mounting parts:
35 Nm (26 ft lb)

4. Nut 40 Nm (30 ft lb)

5. Tie rod, right

6. Tie rod joint, right

7. Self-locking nut
Always replace
50 Nm (37 ft lb)

8. Bolts 60 Nm (44 ft lb)
When tightening, vehicle must be resting on its wheels

9. Bolt

10. Safety plate
Always replace

11. Locknut
50 Nm (37 ft lb)

12. Tie rod end, left

13. Banjo bolts
40 Nm (30 ft lb)
Note different types of 0-rings and copper seals

14. O-rings/copper seals
Always replace

15. Pressure hose
Connect to rotary slide valve housing
Note different versions with 0-rings and copper seals

16. Return hose
Connect to rotary slide valve housing
Note different versions with 0-rings and copper seals

17. Self-locking nut
Always replace
25 Nm (18 ft lb)

18. Washer

19. Steering column
Attach to universal joint

20. Universal joint
Remove before removing steering gear
Place on steering pinion and fasten with locking bolt

21. Locking bolt
Always replace

22. Washer

23. Self-locking nut
Always replace
25 Nm (18 ft lb)

24. Instrument panel seal
Remove before removing steering gear
Ensure correct seating position on instrument panel

25. Bolt
50 Nm (37 ft lb)

26. Wheel housing, left

27. Carrier
Always install in both holes of boot

28. Tie rod, left

29. Threaded piece
Adjust toe on both tie rods
