This system, takes hot air from near the exhaust manifold to warm up the intake air during cold weather operation. Warming the intake air produces better fuel atomization and improved driveability during warm-up, and while driving in very cold weather. The thermostat controls intake air temperature, by opening and closing the control flap as needed.
Flap closed supplies warm air to engine below 32°F. (0°C.)
Flap open supplies cold air to engine above 50°F. (10°C.)
