Front

Front brake pads, replacing

Remove wheels






Unhook brake pad retaining spring by pressing spring in direction of arrow






Push piston back into brake caliper housing by pressing against caliper housing as shown






Press caliper housing in direction of arrow as far as possible
Remove brake pad near piston






Remove brake disc wheel hub locating screw (arrow)
Tilt brake disc outward and remove from brake caliper






Remove brake pad wear indicator wire
Unclip pad wear indicator wire connection from mountings (arrows)






Remove outer brake pad from brake caliper housing
Disconnect brake pad wear indicator wire from brake pad

Note: Damaged wires can be replaced it necessary.

Connect wire for brake pad wear indicator to brake pad (arrow)
Install brake pad
Do not allow pad wear indicator wire to rest against wheel hub
Brake pad retaining spring must lock into brake caliper with an audible click
Install brake disc
Install brake disc locating screw
Install brake pad near piston
Install brake pad retaining spring
Insert wire for brake pad wear indicator into mounting
With vehicle stationary, repeatedly depress brake pedal firmly until brake pads have seated

Front brake caliper changes

Beginning with VIN: LN 102 679 revised front brake calipers are installed in production.
Parts for the repair of earlier vehicles will remain available.
The following parts of the caliper assembly have been revised.






1. Caliper - hole for brake line connection relocated
2. Brake line
3. Bracket for brake line
4. Hex head bolt - torque to 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
5. Brake pad wear indicator wire - revised length, revised terminal connector, ty-wrap added for fastening to bracket

When replacing brake pads note the following changes for disconnecting the wear indicator wire:






Push spring in (left arrow) and pull harness connector upward (right arrow) to disconnect






Carefully pry locking tab at lower part of connector (lower arrow) downward with screwdriver and turn connector 90° left or right (upper arrow) to remove

Front brake disc/wheel hub changes

Beginning with VIN MN 005 507 revised front brake discs and wheel hubs are installed in production.

The revised brake disc is secured to the hub with a screw/washer assembly as opposed to the previously used hex head bolt.






a = revised bore in hub
b = screw with cupped washer 5 Nm (44 in. lb)
C = revised brake disc with matching fit for screw/washer assembly and wheel hub

The revised components more effectively prevent movement between brake disc and wheel hub during braking. Any possible contact oofthe brake disc and wheel bolts is thus avoided.

Note: The earlier version brake discs and wheel hubs are to be used for the repair of vehicle up to VIN: MN 005 506 only.
