Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve: Adjustments

ADJUSTING LINKAGE

Brake Pressure Regulator:





1. Lift vehicle on hoist making sure rear axle is fully extended.
2. Push brake regulator lever (arrow) toward rear until stop.
3. Loosen nut - 1 -.
4. Mount tension spring - 2 - between brake pressure regulator and plastic roller behind nut so no play exists.
5. Tighten nut - 1 - to 25.0 Nm (18.4 ft lb).

ADJUSTING PRESSURE

NOTE:
- Brake system must be filled and properly bled.
- Car must be empty.
- Car must be on wheels.
- Fuel tank full.

1. Remove bleeder screw and connect adapter to left front wheel brake caliper and right rear wheel brake cylinder.
2. Connect VAG 1310 or suitable pressure gauge.
3. Bleed both hoses and gauges with bleeder valve on gauges.
4. Have a person (approximately 165 lbs.) sit on driver's seat.
5. Bounce car several times at rear.
6. Depress brake pedal firmly several times.
7. Depress brake pedal until gauge on left caliper reads 50 bar (725 psi).
^ Gauge for right brake cylinder must read 31.5-39.0 bar (457-566 psi).
8. Increase pedal pressure until gauge on left brake caliper reads 100 bar (1450 psi).
^ Gauge for right brake cylinder must read 50-63 bar (725-914 psi).

Brake Pressure Regulator:





CAUTION:
Do not adjust pressure regulator with brake pedal depressed.

9. If pressure is too high at rear axle, release spring tension by loosening and moving bolt - 1 - toward front of car.
10. Tighten bolt.
11. If pressure too low, move bolt toward rear of car. Tighten bolt.
12. Recheck pressures.
13. If pressures cannot be adjusted, replace regulator.
14. Disconnect pressure gauges and bleed brakes.
