SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 73-14
DTC 73-14:
Short to Ground in the Driver's Side E-Pretensioner Motor
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
3. A function test for "E-pretensioner forcible operation at the time of a CMBS operation" is carried out with the HDS.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Is DTC 73-14 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
6. Disconnect the driver's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector on the floor wire harness Front Seat Belt Replacement.
7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
9. A function test for "E-pretensioner forcible operation at the time of a CMBS operation" is carried out with the HDS.
10. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Is DTC 73-14 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Faulty driver's E-pretensioner motor; replace the driver's seat belt Front Seat Belt Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
12. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
13. Remove the front passenger's seat Front Seat Removal/Installation.
14. Remove the passenger's center console trim Center Console Removal/Installation.
15. Disconnect E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) from the E-pretensioner unit Removal and Replacement.
16. Measure the resistance between body ground and driver's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Replace the E-pretensioner unit Removal and Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
NO -
Short in the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�
