SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 44-1x, 46-1x

DTC 44-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (first)

DTC 46-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (second)

NOTE:

- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software SRS Unit Update, and retest.

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 46-1x (except 46-11) indicated?

YES -

Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.�

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

6. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 44-1x (except 44-11) indicated?

YES -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.�

NO -

Go to step 7.

7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

9. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 13.

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

12. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 44-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 42.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�

13. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

14. Check the connections between SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit, and between the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness and the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, and between the right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness and right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

Are the connections OK?

YES -

Go to step 15.

NO -

Replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

15. Substitute a known-good side impact sensor Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

16. Exchange the right side impact sensor (second) for the impact sensor prepared in step 15.

17. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

18. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

19. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

20. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 21.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.�

21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

22. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

23. Return the impact sensor (first) which was replaced in step 16.

24. Substitute a known-good side impact sensor Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

25. Exchange the right side impact sensor (first) for the impact sensor prepared in step 24.

26. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

27. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

28. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

29. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 30.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.�

30. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

31. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

32. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit Service and Repair.

33. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

34. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

35. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 36.

NO -

Short to another wire in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

36. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 37.

NO -

Short to ground in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

37. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

38. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

39. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually. There should be less than 0.2 V.





Is the voltage as specified?

YES -

Go to step 40.

NO -

Short to power in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

40. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

41. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 1 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 2, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 4 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 1. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.�

NO -

Open in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

42. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

43. Check the connections between SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit, and between the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness and the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, and between the right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness and right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

Are the connections OK?

YES -

Go to step 44.

NO -

Replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

44. Substitute a known-good side impact sensor Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

45. Exchange the right side impact sensor (first) for the impact sensor prepared in step 44.

46. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

47. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

48. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

49. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 44-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 50.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.�

50. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

51. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

52. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit Service and Repair.

53. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

54. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 55.

NO -

Short to another wire in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

55. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 56.

NO -

Short to ground in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

56. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

57. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

58. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually. There should be less than 0.2 V.





Is the voltage as specified?

YES -

Go to step 59.

NO -

Short to power in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

59. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

60. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 2 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 39, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 3 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 38. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.





Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.�

NO -

Open in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�
