REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
The service manual procedure to remove the windshield side trim is incorrect for this VIN range. The windshield side trim must be replaced when it is removed.

1. Pull out on the windshield side trim to remove it from each side:

NOTE:
The Service Manual Retainer Replacement procedure is incorrect and will be revised in future printings. The following is the appropriate retainer replacement procedure.

2. Remove the retainers from the body:

^ Using a heat gun, heat the retainer to between 212°-248°F (100°120°C).

^ Use a plastic scraper to loosen the retainer from the body.

^ Use pliers to gently pull the retainer from the body.

^ Avoid damaging the paint by applying heat gradually to the retainer.

^ Be careful not to scratch the body.

^ While applying heat, use the plastic scraper to remove any double-sided tape that may have stuck to the A-pillar.

3. Clean the bonding surface on the body with a shop towel dampened with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, keep oil, grease, and water from getting on the bonding surface.

4. Test-fit the retainers in their proper mounting positions. The mounting positions are marked with the dimples in the body near the glass.

5. Prepare the 3M adhesive.

NOTE:
3M Scotch-Weld DP-100 NS Adhesive is supplied in a dual syringe plastic Duo-Pak cartridge as part of the 3M Scotch-Weld EPX Plus II Applicator 50004 system. To use:

^ Insert the Duo-Pak cartridge into the applicator.

^ Using light pressure on the trigger, start the plunger into the cylinders.

^ Remove the Duo-Pak cartridge cap; expel a small amount of adhesive, making sure both sides of the Duo pak cartridges are flowing evenly and freely.

^ Attach the EPX mixing nozzle to the Duo-Pak cartridge.

^ Begin dispensing the adhesive.

6. Apply an even coat of the adhesive to the bonding surface of the retainer.

NOTE:
Clean the retainer bonding surface with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry before applying the adhesive.

7. Press each retainer onto the body, and let the adhesive harden for 20 minutes before installing the windshield side trim. The adhesive reaches maximum hardness after 1 hour.

[NOTICE]

Remove excess adhesive from the retainer and retainer ends. Excessive adhesive will prevent the windshield side trim from engaging properly.

8. Install the windshield side trim on both sides.
