Driver's Power Seat Is Rough or Bumpy When Moving Forward or Backward

SYMPTOM

There is a rough or bumpy feeling when moving the driver's power seat forward or backward on its rails.

PROBABLE CAUSE

There are small indentations on the seat frame rails.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the driver's seat frame rail.

P/N 81554-TL2-A01

Nut (must change):
P/N 81203-TL0-G21

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:

^ Before you begin, make sure you know the SRS component locations, and that you read and understand the SRS precautions and procedures explained in the service manual.

^ Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing parts.

- Battery Disconnection/Reconnection

1. Adjust the steering wheel all the way up and all the way in. Recline the driver's seat midway.

2. Remove the driver's head restraint.





3. Using the appropriate trim tool, carefully pry up the anchor cover at the pry point to release the hooks and tab, then remove the cover by pulling it upward.





4. Lower the driver's seat to its lowest position, and move it all the way forward.





5. Remove the seat belt lower anchor bolt.





6. Adjust the seat to its highest position, and tilt the seat-back all the way forward.





7. Remove the seat track end covers from the back of both seat rails.





8. Remove the rear mounting bolts from the seat.





9. Move the seat all the way back, then remove the front mounting bolts from the seat.

10. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before continuing.





11. Lift up the front of the seat, then detach the harness clips. Disconnect the seat wire harness connector and the side airbag connector.

12. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove the seat.





13. Remove the front cover from the seat.





14. Remove the center cover.





15. Remove the recline cover, and disconnect the connector. Remove the upper recline inner cover from the recline cover.





16. Disconnect the seat belt buckle switch connector.





17. Remove the seat belt buckle center anchor bolt.





18. Disconnect the seat position sensor harness 2P connector and remove the seat position sensor from the seat rail.





19. Detach the clips, then remove the upper rail outer cover.





20. Detach the clip, then remove the upper rail inner cover.





21. Disconnect the slide motor connector, then detach the harness clip.





22. Remove the bolts with a TORX T30 bit, then remove the seat frame rail from the seat.

23. Install the new seat frame rail onto the seat using new TORX bolts.





24. Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the seatbelt buckle center anchor bolt, then reinstall the bolt and torque it to 32 N.m (24 lb-ft).





25. Reinstall the driver's seat position sensor using a new nut and bolt.

26. Reinstall all removed items onto the seat except for the seat track end covers.

27. With the help of an assistant, carefully place the seat into the vehicle. Do not install the mounting bolts yet.





28. Lift up the front of the seat, then reconnect the seat wire harness connector and the side airbag connector. Reattach the harness clips.

29. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.





30. Install the seat mounting bolts, and torque them to 41 N.m (30 lb-ft).

31. Reinstall the rear seat track end covers.

32. Reinstall the head restraint.

33. Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the seat belt lower anchor bolt.





34. Reinstall the seat belt lower anchor bolt, and torque it to 39 N.m (29 lb-ft).





35. Reinstall the anchor cover.

36. Verify that the seat operates smoothly and makes no noise when moving forward or backward.

37. Check the operation of the driver's seat position sensor.

38. Clear any DTCs that may have been set.
