Intermittent No Sound From Audio Unit; Preset Buttons Do Not Respond
SYMPTOM
The audio unit sound intermittently does not work, and the audio presets do not respond.
PROBABLE CAUSE
There is a software problem with the audio unit.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the audio unit with a remanufactured unit.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
1. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I), turn the audio unit on, and make sure you are in the FM band.
2. Confirm there is no sound from the audio unit.
3. Leave the audio unit on for at least 15 minutes. Do not touch any buttons.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and wait at least 5 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I), and check if the audio unit sounds normal and the audio unit buttons work.
Can you hear the audio system, and do the buttons work properly?
Yes - Go to the applicable REPAIR PROCEDURE (with navigation or without navigation).
No - This service bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting procedures.
REPAIR PROCEDURE - WITH NAVIGATION
NOTE:

1. Eject any CDs from the audio unit.
2. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure.
3. Remove the center console panel.
4. Remove the passenger's dashboard trim.
5. Remove the driver's and passenger's center trim.
6. Remove the climate control unit.
7. Remove the four bolts holding the audio unit in the vehicle, then pull out the audio unit.
8. Disconnect the connectors, and remove the audio unit.
9. Remove the brackets from the audio unit (eight bolts).
10. Install the brackets on the replacement audio unit.
11. Install the replacement audio unit in the reverse order of removal, and make sure all of the connectors are securely connected.
12. Reinstall the climate control unit.
13. Install the driver's and passenger's center trim. Make sure all of the screws and the clips are securely attached. Replace any damaged clips.
14. Install the passenger's dashboard trim.
15. Install the center console panel.
16. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
17. Give the client the new anti-theft code.

6. Remove the climate control unit.
7. Remove the center holder.
8. Remove the center pocket.
9. Remove the bolts, then pull out the audio unit.
10. Disconnect the connectors, and remove the audio unit.
11. Remove the dashboard center vent (two screws).
12. Remove the brackets from the audio unit (eight bolts).
13. Separate the audio unit from the switch panel (four bolts).
14. Install the replacement audio unit in the reverse order of removal, and make sure all of the connectors are securely connected.
15. Install the center pocket.
16. Install the center holder.
17. Install the climate control unit.
18. Install the driver's and passenger's center trim. Make sure all of the screws and the clips are securely attached. Replace any damaged clips.
19. Install the passenger's dashboard trim.
20. Install the center console panel.
21. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
22. Give the client the new anti-theft code.
