SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 81-71, 81-78

DTC 81-71, 81-78: ODS Unit Not Calibrated

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Check for DTCs with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 81-71 or 81-78 indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.


4. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

5. Do the front passenger's weight sensor initialization. ODS Unit Initialization

6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

8. Check for DTCs with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 81-71 or 81-78 indicated?
YES - Replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC. If DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
