SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 71-2x (x can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F)
DTC 71-2x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):Short in the Driver's Seat Position Sensor
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures, General Troubleshooting Information, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection. Procedures
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software, and retest.
1. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Check for DTCs with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Is DTC 71-2x indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
5. Disconnect the driver's seat wire harness 2P connector (A) from the driver's seat position sensor 2P connector. Service and Repair
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
7. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
8. Check for DTCs with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Is DTC 71-2x indicated?
YES - Go to step 9.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
10. Disconnect the negative cable to the battery, then wait for 3 minutes.
11. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit. Service and Repair
12. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 23 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty driver's seat position sensor or SRS unit; replace the driver's seat position sensor, then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit.
NO - Short to another wire in the SRS floor wire harness or driver's seat wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
