SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-4x, 85-5x, 85-63, 85-64 (x can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F)

DTC 85-4x, 85-5x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F), 85-63, 85-64: Internal Failure of ODS Unit

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

2. Turn the ignition to LOCK (0), then wait at least 10 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait at least 10 seconds.

4. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 85-64 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Go to step 7.


5. Initialize the ODS unit. ODS Unit Initialization

6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

NO - Replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then initialize the ODS unit. ODS Unit Initialization If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement


7. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 85-4x, 85-5x, or 85-63 indicated?
YES - Replace the ODS unit. ODS Unit Replacement If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
