SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 73-1x (x can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F)

DTC 73-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F): Open in Driver's E-Pretensioner Motor

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

2. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 73-1x indicated?
YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.


3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Disconnect E-pretensioner subharness 5P connector A from the E-pretensioner unit. Removal and Replacement

5. Disconnect the E-pretensioner subharness 2P connector from the driver's E-pretensioner motor. Front Seat Belt Replacement

6. Measure the resistance between the No. 1 terminal of E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) and the No. 2 terminal of driver's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector, and between the No. 4 terminal of E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) and the No. 1 terminal of driver's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.

Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 7.

NO - Open in the E-pretensioner subharness or the left side wire harness; replace the faulty harness.






7. Reconnect the driver's E-pretensioner motor 2P connector.

8. Measure the resistance between the No. 1 and No. 4 terminals of E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P). There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.

Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty E-pretensioner unit; replace the E-pretensioner unit. Removal and Replacement

NO - Faulty E-pretensioner motor; replace the driver's E-pretensioner motor. Front Seat Belt Replacement
