VSA System
VSA DTC Troubleshooting: 12, 14, 16, 18
DTC 12, 14, 16, 18: Wheel Speed Sensor (Electrical Noise/Intermittent Interruption)
NOTE: If the ABS indicator comes on because of electrical noise, the indicator goes off when you test-drive the vehicle at 19 mph (30 km/h).
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then turn it to ON (II) again.
4. Test-drive the vehicle around a number of corners.
Does the ABS indicator come on and is DTC 12, 14, 16 or 18 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
5. Check the appropriate wheel speed sensor and magnetic encoder for debris or damage. Testing and Inspection
Is there debris or damage?
YES - Clean or replace the wheel speed sensor or magnetic encoder.
NO - Go to step 6.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector.
8. Check for continuity between the appropriate wheel speed sensor +B terminal and other wheel speed sensor +B terminals of the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector (see table).
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the appropriate wheel speed sensor and the other wheel speed sensor.
NO - Go to step 9.
9. Substitute a known-good wheel speed sensor for the appropriate wheel speed sensor (see table).
10. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
11. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then turn it to ON (II) again.
13. Test-drive the vehicle around a number of corners.
Does the ABS indicator come on?
YES - Check for loose terminals or poor connections at the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector. If connections are good, replace the VSA modulator-control unit, Service and Repair and recheck.
NO - Replace the original wheel speed sensor or encoder. Service and Repair
