A/T - MIL ON DTC P0740 Set

MIL Comes On With DTC P0740 (Replaces incorrectly numbered 00-012, MIL Comes On With DTC P0740, dated September 11, 2000)

PROBLEM

The MIL comes on with DTC P0740, Lock-up Clutch Does Not Engage, stored in the TCM.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the TCM, and flush the transmission.

PARTS INFORMATION

Transmission Control Module (TCM):
P/N 281 00-P75-305

Honda ATF (10 quarts): P/N 08206-9001 Drain Plug

Washer: P/N 90471-PX4-000

In warranty:
The normal warranty applies.

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Replace the TCM. Refer to page 14-89 of the 1998 Integra Service Manual.

2. Clear the DTC with the PGM Tester.

3. Raise the car.

4. Drain the transmission. Refill it with Honda ATF.

5. Start the engine.

6. With your foot on the brake pedal, shift the transmission to D4.

7. Release the brake pedal. Press on the accelerator, and bring the speedometer up to 50 mph. Make sure the transmission shifts through the first three lower gears and into fourth, and that the torque converter locks up.

8. Apply the brakes to stop the front wheels.

9. Shift to reverse, then to neutral.

10. Repeat the shifting procedure (steps 6 through 9) four more times.

11. Turn off the engine.

12. Repeat the drain, refill, and shifting process (steps 4 through 11) two more times.

13. Drain the transmission. Reinstall the drain bolt with a new washer. Refill the transmission with Honda ATF.

14. Test-drive the car.

^ If the MIL does not come on, return the car to the customer.

^ If the MIL comes on with DTC P0740, go to step 15.

15. Replace the transmission.
