REMOVAL

WARNING: Make sure lifts, jacks and safety stands are placed properly.

1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands.
2. Set parking brake, and block both rear wheels securely.
3. Shift the transmission into the P position.

4. Remove the drain plug and drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF). Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer.

5. Remove the transmission mount and transmission mount bracket.
6. Remove the A/T gear position switch cover, then remove the ATF pan.
7. Remove the shift control solenoid valve connector (2P) from the connector holder, then disconnect it.
8. Remove the ATF strainer (four bolts).
9. Remove the main valve body plate (four bolts).
10. Remove the harness cover (four bolts).

11. Remove the one bolt securing the shift control solenoid valve harness connector, then remove the connector and pull the harness out through the transmission housing.

12. Move the shift fork toward the torque converter side as shown.
13. Make sure that the detent lever is in the P position.
NOTE: If the detent lever is not in the P position, the lower valve body assembly cannot be removed.

14. Remove the six bolts securing the lower valve body assembly as shown, then remove the lower valve body assembly.

15. Clean the inlet opening of the ATF stainer thoroughly with compressed air, then check that it is in good condition, and the inlet opening is not clogged.
16. Replace the ATF strainer if it is clogged or damaged.
NOTE: The ATF strainer can be reused if it is not clogged.

INSTALLATION

NOTE:
* Coat all parts with ATF.
* Replace the O-rings and ATF pan gasket.

1. Shift the transmission into the P position.
2. Assemble the lower valve body assembly.

3. Install the two dowel pins on the lower valve body assembly.
4. Push the shift fork in the D range position.
5. Install the lower valve body putting the manual valve and the detent lever together, the reverse selector and the shift fork together, and joining the ATF feed pipes with the ATF feed pipe holes on the transmission housing.

6. Install the six bolts and torque as shown.
7. Install the main valve body plate (four bolts)
8. Pass the shift control solenoid valve harness through the transmission housing, and install the shift control solenoid valve harness connector (one bolt).
9. Install the harness cover (four bolts).

10. Lightly pull the shift control solenoid valve harness from the harness cover, then bring the shift control solenoid valve harness back. Make sure that the shift control solenoid valve harness is not pinched. If the shift control solenoid valve harness is pinched, loosen the four bolts securing the harness cover then retighten the bolts.
TORQUE: 12 Nm (8.7 ft. lbs.).

11. Install the ATF strainer with a new O-ring (four bolts).
TORQUE: 12 Nm (8.7 ft. lbs.).

12. Install the ATF pan with two dowel pins and a new ATF pan gasket (fifteen bolts) as shown. Make sure that the shift control solenoid valve harness is not pinched by the ATF pan.
TORQUE: 12 Nm (8.7 ft. lbs.).

13. Install the AT gear position switch cover. Tighten the bolt on the ATF pan side loosely so that there is no clearance between the A/T gear position switch cover and the ATF pan. Then tighten the bolt on the rear cover side to the specified torque, and tighten the bolt on the ATF pan side to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 12 Nm (8.7 ft.lbs.).
14. Connect the shift control solenoid valve connector.

15. Install the transmission mount bracket and transmission mount.
16. Refill the transmission with ATF.
17. Start the engine, and shift the transmission through all gears three times. Check the shift lever operation and the A/T gear position indicator operation.
18. Let the engine reach operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on) with the transmission in the N or P position, then turn it off and check ATF level.
