Fuel Pressure Control Solenoid: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Increases fuel pressure to compensate for hot soak conditions that occur at high engine temperatures, allowing for quicker starts.

LOCATION
Mounted at the firewall in the rear of the engine compartment.

OPERATION
The solenoid is power by ignition switch terminal 1, whenever the ignition is turned on. If coolant temperature is above 194°F (90°C) and intake air is above 176°F (80°C), the ECU provides a ground, which energizes the solenoid. When powered, vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator is bled off to the atmosphere, which raises the fuel pressure for approximately 60 seconds.
