Transaxle Replace
1. Disable coded theft protection system as described in Accessories and Optional Equipment / Antitheft and Alarm Systems / Service and Repair.2. Disable airbag system as described in Air Bags and Seat Belts / Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems) / Airbag System Disarming.
3. Drain transaxle fluid, then install drain plug.
4. Remove strut bar.
5. Remove control box. Do not remove vacuum tubes from control box.
6. Disconnect transaxle electrical harness, then remove clamp.
7. Remove transaxle dipstick tube.
8. Remove transaxle housing attaching bolts.
9. Remove exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
10. Remove exhaust pipe heat shield and bracket.
11. Remove cooler hose at joint pipes, then turn end up to prevent fluid leakage.
12. Disconnect transaxle electrical connector from shift cable cover, then remove shift cable cover.
13. Remove control lever from control shaft.
14. Remove underbody lower plate and install steering gearbox attaching bolts.
15. Shift to P position rotating the control shaft.
16. Remove secondary cover and sealing bolts.
17. Remove extension shaft from differential using suitable tool.
18. Position suitable transaxle support jacks, raise transaxle enough to take weight off the mounts, then remove mid mounts.
19. Remove transaxle attaching bolts.
20. Remove shift cable guide.
21. Remove rear transaxle mount bracket/mount and exhaust pipe stay.
22. Remove engine stiffener.
23. Remove torque converter covers.
24. Remove plug, then remove driveplate bolts one at a time while rotating the crankshaft pulley.
25. Remove transaxle housing attaching bolts, then remove transaxle.
26. Reverse to install.
27. Restore coded theft protection system and rearm airbag.
