General Description

CAUTION: On models equipped with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), disconnect and isolate battery ground cable before performing service. Failure to do so may result in accidental airbag deployment and personal injury.
All SRS electrical harnesses are covered with yellow outer insulation, with related components located in the steering column, center console, dash panel and front fenders. Do not use electrical test equipment on these circuits.

The anti-lock brake system modulates pressure of brake fluid to each caliper whenever wheels are likely to be locked due to excessive braking. This prevents locking of the wheels and allows for better handling of vehicle.

The anti-lock brake control unit receives input from individual speed sensors located at each wheel and from the ALB pressure switch. The anti-lock brake control unit uses inputs to control the modulator unit, which adjusts hydraulic pressure applied to each caliper on the basis of the signals received from the anti-lock brake control unit.

The anti-lock brake control unit has a self-diagnosis function that monitors main systems functions. When an abnormality is detected, the ALB warning indicator light goes On and the anti-lock brake control unit turns Off the ALB fail-safe relays and motor relay. The anti-lock brake system is disabled, but the conventional brake system continues to operate normally
